Wonjucheon is the first tributary to Seomgang. It is originated from the upland on the western ridge of Namtaebong and flows southwardly, and its current is changed north-northwesterly at Geumdaegyo. Its length is equivalent to 27.88Km.
It is located between Long. 127¡Æ54¢¥30¢©, Long. 128¡Æ3¢¥3¢©, 37¡Æ14¢¥29¢© and 37¡Æ25¢¥31¢©, and Heungyangcheon, Hwacheon, etc. flow into the river from the east as well as its drainage basin is widely formed.
Bongcheon, originated from Namdaebong in Chiaksan and Baekunsan, crosses Wonju downtown and meets the tributaries such as Heungyangcheon, Hwacheon, etc. Such a current erodes away surrounding highlands and forms the so-called Wonju Basin, and flows into Seomgang at Jusan-ri in Hojeo-myeon.
It is called ¡®Bongcheon¡¯, ¡®Bongsancheon¡¯ or ¡®Wonjucheon¡¯ by naming after ¡®Bongsan¡¯, or is called ¡®Dongcheon¡¯ as it runs the east of downtown (¡®Dong¡¯ mans the east).
Sometimes, the upper Chiakgyo linked to Yeongnangcheon (Hwacheon) is called ¡®Bongcheon¡¯ or ¡®Bongsancheon¡¯, and its downstream, that is, the current before Bongsandong is called ¡®Wonjucheon.¡¯
